There are approximately 1.94 billion websites on the web right now. With that large an array of options available to users, the probability that they click on your link is 1/1.94 billion.

Seems like the odds are not in your favor? Not necessarily.

Every online brand wants to get the maximum online traffic on their website. The only way to do that is by understanding how SEO works.

Statistics show that only 28% of businesses are actually focusing on user engagement to improve SEO.

Here are 4 user engagement metrics that influence SEO.

1. Dwell Time

Also known as long clicks, dwell time measures how long a user stays on your website. Naturally, the longer a user spends visiting your site and browsing through the features, the more likely it is that something will catch their eye.

Google’s algorithm picks on the user’s pattern of behavior. If the user stays on your page for longer than average, Google ranks you among their top search results from then on. In terms of SEO, this definitely boosts your search engine rankings.

2. Click-through Rate

This rate calculates the number of times a page is clicked at through a search results page.
This is a familiar measurement tool for marketers who have engaged in email marketing.

Google keeps track of links that get clicked the most among search results. The more the clicks, the higher that link is ranked on the SERP, hence better SEO.

3. Return Visits

Google’s algorithm also accounts for users who return to the same link a second time. Of course, a user will only return to your webpage if it intrigues them enough the first time. The greater the number of return clicks, the higher the chances of successfully selling a good or service to them.

And as mentioned, it also influences your SEO rankings overall. All you need to do is install Google Analytics and it’ll show you how many return clicks you’re getting.

4. Leaving a Comment

This user engagement metric only involves blog posts on your website. As an online brand, you may or may not facilitate users to leave a comment. The only reason most ecommerce brands are wary of comments is for fear of spam.

Since turning off comments entirely leaves a bad impression on users who feel deprived of any contact, you can moderate the comments that come. This is also a big boost to your SEO ranking because nothing misses the Google algorithm.
